I like racing games. For a long stretch of my gaming life, I didn't want anything to do with them but that all changed with Project Gotham Racing 2 for the original Xbox. I'm not sure if it was the custom soundtrack, the newly launched Xbox Live service, or just boredom, but I poured myself into that game. I don't know much about cars and absolutely nothing about NASCAR, but that one game turned me into an amateur racer. (Purely digital, of course.)
I had just gotten my Xbox 360 and Microsoft gave me copies of all their first party launch titles. Project Gotham Racing 3 was fun, but it didn't grab me the way its predecessor did. I started looking around for something else to play. In that first month, games were sparse and not always in stock but for reasons beyond me I decided I'd give NFS: Most Wanted a try. Ladies and gentleman, we had a winner. While some people whined about the FMV and less than realistic physics engine, I LOVED it. In fact, I played it more than any other 360 launch title and I still get it out to screw around with it from time to time.
In the past couple of years, several other Need for Speed titles have hit but none of them have grabbed me quite the way that NFS: Most Wanted did. I would say that I've even grown a bit skeptical of the franchise... but, DUDE, have you seen the new trailer? I'm REALLY excited about it. The cockpit view reminds me of GT5 Prologue while the courses are giving off a PGR vibe. I don't want to jump the gun, but I'm sold. Add in serious support for a driving wheel and its over. Need for Speed: SHIFT will be available on September 22 and you can learn more about it here.
Here is the video I'm so excited about:

The game looks awesome, but without the cops chasing you, it just doesn't feel like a NFS game. :P
But it does looks like a good game. If I had a 360 or PS3 I would go out and rent it the week it comes out just to see if I would like it.
