Today was tough. I just checked the temperature: 92 degrees. Honestly, I think it has to be hotter than that. It was CRAZY hot out there. When I hit the 3 mile mark a voice in my head said: "I don't think I've been this hot in my entire life." Of course, this isn't true. I just haven't been this hot since last summer, but there was no arguing with that voice. It was the kind of hot where you start to get cold and then realize you had better take a break because you are one step from lapping up the water at your feet to only discover it is sand.

I knew today was going to be hot so I had to make a choice: run in the woods or run on the standard running trail. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. In the woods, it is cooler but there is little to no breeze and it is more humid. In the sun, you get more breeze and it is less humid but you also have to face the radiant heat from the blacktop which is AWFUL. I opted for the woods today... which sounded great, but as I said it was *HOT*. Super hot. Mind altering hot.
I had to take a couple of walk breaks, but I'm blaming the heat. I hit a 4 miler last week and had a very solid run... and even took 90 seconds off my earlier posted time. Again, I'm blaming variations in temperature for all this not some great difference in athletic ability.
Anyone else training? Hello? (echo, echo....)
